MiSight lenses are now being widely used to control worsening myopia.

Does your child have myopia (nearsightedness)?

Is your child’s optical prescription worsening?

Does your child require stronger glasses every year?

What is myopia?

Myopia (nearsightedness) generally begins in childhood, when a child’s eyes grow and develop at rapid rates. If the eyes elongate, or grow too long from front to back (axial length), images will be focused in front of the retina, instead of directly on the retina— resulting in blurred vision.

Since the eyes continue to grow and develop until around age 20, myopia can worsen for many years until it eventually stabilizes.

As recent research shows a strong correlation between high levels of myopia and the development of serious eye diseases, myopia progression has become a growing concern among many optometrists.

Optometrists have developed a program called Myopia Management, which includes various options to correct vision, while successfully preventing myopia from worsening.

If your child has myopia, contact an eye doctor near you, who can discuss the best options for myopia management.

A closer look at MiSight contact lenses

MiSight contact lenses are daily disposable, soft contact lenses designed to control myopia progression in children ages 8 to 15 years.

Although FDA approval is for children up to age 12, recent research has found that teens up to age 15 can also benefit from these lenses.

MiSight lenses are uniquely designed with concentric rings etched into the peripheral part of the lens. This design helps to focus light directly onto the retina and corrects the refractive error without causing the eye to grow longer.

A three-year clinical study showed that:

  • 90% of children preferred wearing their MiSight lenses over their eyeglasses.
  • 90% of children could handle their MiSight lenses without the help of their parents.
  • Over 95% of parents reported that their children were happy with their MiSight lenses due to comfort, improved vision, ease of use and freedom from glasses.

By addressing the primary cause of myopia development, MiSight lenses help to prevent myopia from getting worse.

Primary benefits of MiSight lenses:

  • Suitable for children
  • Comfortable
  • Disposable
  • Corrects distance vision
  • Reduces myopia progression

Are MiSight lenses effective?

The efficacy of MiSight contact lenses for myopia management was tested over a three year clinical research trial.

The research study included 135 children between ages 8 to 12 who were prescribed either MiSight lenses or traditional, distance-only soft contact lenses.

According to the results of the study, when compared to distance-only contact lenses, the MiSight lenses contributed to:

  • Reduced rate of eye elongation by 52%
  • Reduced rate of myopia progression by 59%

These results indicate that MiSight soft contact lenses can be an effective option for myopia management in children.
