Why did you decide to become an optometrist?
I grew up playing in my cousin's office, who had his optometry practice built in the garage of his house. I specifically remember being hyper-focused on the phoropter because I loved the way the lenses moved around and around. At 8 years old, I made a project on what I wanted to be when I grew up, and after astronaut and comedian, optometrist came in as #3! I'd consider that as an accomplishment achieved!
What's your favorite part about working at ECA?
Favorite part is joining a team that seems so supportive of one another. I am so excited to work with all of my coworkers and to be able to provide so many different solutions to a variety of vision problems through each doctor's individual specialty and skills.
What is your most inspirational patient story?
My most inspirational patient story was working with a patient who kept saying she felt "strange." She was having a hard time focusing mentally and visually, occasionally reported having double vision, and her eyelids kept drooping throughout the day. Even her speech was somewhat affected. She came to me for new glasses to fix the vision issues, but confided that she didn't trust her primary doctor to address these problems. After a few tests and consultation with a nearby neurologist, we were able to identify a neurological condition called myasthenia gravis. This patient started to feel better after starting the appropriate medication. It improved her quality of life drastically and I made a lifelong friend/patient.
What is your patient care philosophy?
To provide every patient with the utmost professional care, as well as personalized attention, with a little bit of laughter on the side!
What would you want every patient to know about their eye health?
Just because you can see "well" doesn't mean you have healthy eyes and a functional visual system. Everyone needs to consult with an eye care provider for baseline screening!
What is it about the practice that propels you forward, that helps you develop your passions and enjoy your work day to day?
Patient connection, like talking to my patients, making personal connections, patient satisfaction when the patient walks out and tells me, “that exam was so thorough,” or “I appreciate your time” or more specifically, “I feel so much better” or “my glasses are so much better.” So just the satisfaction from patients, that's what makes me happy. And I also really like all of my coworkers. So it's a good staff and appreciative patients. And that's what drives me to keep going forward.
It’s very important to be able to communicate with patients on their level, in their language. I speak Spanish and Portuguese. Taking things that are complicated and explaining them and translating them from medical language to normal English, or from English to Spanish or something along that line, just taking a difficult thing that people don't understand and making it understandable to them.
Diana Ngo, O.D.
Dr. Diana Ngo is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry with a minor in Biology and Spanish. She then obtained her doctoral degree in 2021 from Western University of Health Sciences College of Optometry in California.
Her training was involved in various arrays of settings: Vision Therapy private practice in Chandler, Arizona; Glaucoma/Medical based private practice in Cincinnati, Ohio; Community Health Clinic in Atwater, California; and Primary/Ocular Disease in VA Tulsa, Oklahoma.
The exposure to diverse areas of optometry further solidified her passion for vision therapy, enabling her to apply, and as a result, be accepted into our SUNY residency at EyeCare Associates, PC. Since completing her residency, she brings her expertise in vision therapy into the primary care setting as the first line of treatment and educating more patients about vision therapy/ rehabilitation.
After work, Diana likes to wind down her day enjoying a good rom-com movie or drama. On her days off, she loves to explore various cities, try local famous foods/coffee/boba shops, and visit various parks.
Magy Tepliz, O.D.
Allie Decker, O.D.
Dr Allie Decker takes pride in building new connections with people. She loves meeting new patients, hearing their stories, and forming new relationships. It brings her so much joy! Dr Decker is one of the developmental, rehabilitative, and pediatric optometrists on staff. She focuses on treating binocular vision concerns and improving functional vision in all patients, including those who have suffered traumatic brain injury and those with neurodevelopmental disorders. This is such a dynamic subdivision of Optometry that it always affords the opportunity to learn something new.
As the daughter of an educator, she learned the importance of being a lifelong learner at an early age. Additionally, she always appreciated and admired the difference you can make in students' lives at such a young age. Given this exposure, Dr Decker naturally adopted a passion for caring for the pediatric population. Vision rehabilitation requires very similar skill sets to those of an educator, which is why it is no surprise that she gravitated toward this niche in the field of optometry.
In the ninth grade, Dr Decker was encouraged to research a career that she was interested in. Being an eyeglasses wearer at the time, she considered a career in Optometry. Dr Decker researched the career, its opportunities, and its potential to make a difference in the world. After completing this project, young 14-year-old Allie made her own decision! From that point onward, she never swayed from my decision to pursue a career in Optometry.
Dr. Decker tries her best to give patients ample time to digest the clinical findings and always asks them if they have any questions before they leave the room. Knowledge is power - it is very important to her that her patients feel comfortable with their treatment plan and get sufficient background to understand my decision-making process.
Honesty is the best policy. Dr. Decker is always upfront with her patients regarding what to expect when she performs a particular procedure. Verbally educating or counseling patients to adequately prepare them before conducting a foreign procedure has always helped relieve any tension experienced in the examination room. For her pediatric patients, she often makes things more playful and has them think of her testing sequence as a series of challenges in a game that they need to accomplish. You frequently hear more laughs/giggles than not when passing by her examination room! Laughter is the best medicine and the best way to relieve any tension.
Dr Decker always tells her patients how much she advocates for lifelong learning. To effectively learn, one must have an efficient functional vision. The brain and eyes operate harmoniously to work as effectively as possible. It is important to remember that for this system to remain in balance, you must care for your eyes! This requires being mindful of signs of visual fatigue and listening to your body. Take a break when your eyes are tired, reduce screen time, drink plenty of water, follow a healthy diet, and sleep well! This is critical for the eye-brain connection to operate as smoothly as possible - and for your brain to keep learning!
Blue light-blocking glasses are going to treat your computer difficulties! Many patients with visual eyestrain reach for blue light-blocking glasses to remediate symptoms. Being on the computer or spending extended time on digital devices can cause visual stress. It is important to determine if there are underlying near-point stress difficulties causing symptoms prior to reaching for the blue light blockers! We do this by assessing your eye teaming and focusing systems with a sensorimotor evaluation.

Matthew graduated from New England College of Optometry in Boston in 2023, serving as Class President and representing the school at a national optometry quiz bowl. He found his true passion working with others who have had a brain injury. He is thankful every day for the doctors, nurses, and therapists who helped him following his accident and intends to give back that same level of care and compassion to his patients.
He is currently a SUNY resident in Brain Injury Rehabilitation and Vision Therapy working under Dr. Schulman.
When he is not looking at eyes or drinking coffee, Matthew enjoys playing guitar and riding his motorcycle.
Krupa Baxi, O.D.

Dr. McCain-Schroeder is a Minnesota native. She graduated from Hartwick College with Bachelor of Sciences degree in Biology and Business Administration. She obtained her Doctorate of Optometry from Illinois College of Optometry in 2024.
Ally was first exposed to the profession of optometry during college after she struggled with visual side effects after a traumatic brain injury. She utilized vision therapy during recovery and the results improved her quality of life and pushed her to pursue a career in vision care.
During her graduate training, she gravitated toward specialty clinics in pediatrics and vision therapy. From her experience as a patient, she hopes to provide encouragement and compassion to improve patient outcomes, just as she received as a patient. She is currently a SUNY resident in Brain Injury Rehabilitation and Vision Therapy.
